Baseball Hall of Fame: Zero, zilch, nada, nobody

Today’s baseball Hall of Fame voting results were more about expressing the collective feeling against the steroid-era players, versus acknowledging those players that rightfully should be in the Hall of Fame.

While Tigers/Twins pitching ace Jack Morris doesn’t have statistical superiority to those already in the HOF, he DOES have numbers that have stood up over time. And for that reason, he deserves to be in.

While the World Series didn’t end in the way anyone wanted and the 2012 season is over, there will be many great memories from this team and this season.

One of those is memories is participating in the on-field flag ceremony during Game 3 of the World Series. More than 150 volunteers made their way down to Comerica Park for rehearsal earlier in the day and then came back well before the first pitch. While it’s a small part of the pre-game activities, there is nothing more special than unfurling the American flag on the field in front of a packed house, players and teams.

GO TIGERS !!!

Triple Crown

Detroit Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera has achieved something that most of us have not seen in our lifetime. With the conclusion of tonight’s MLB games, Cabrera is the first player in the past 45 years to win the baseball Triple Crown (.330 BA, 44 HR and 139 RBI). Only 14 others in the history of the game have done the same thing. The last player to win the Triple Crown was Carl Yastrzemski (Boston Red Sox CF) in 1967. For a sport steeped in so much tradition, this milestone is something very special and should be regarded as such.

Congratulations Miguel Cabrera !

Former Divine Child baseball player Chris Rusin made his major league debut this week with the Chicago Cubs after being called up from the Triple A Iowa Cubs of the Pacific Coast League.

Rusin pitched five innings, the Brewers led 1-0. He gave up just one hit, with four strikeouts and two walks on his 76-pitch debut. Chris also helped his own cause with a triple in his first major league at bat.

A 2005 graduate of Divine Child, Rusin was a significant contributor in three Catholic League Championships and two Division 2 state championships. Rusin went on to play for the University of Kentucky and was a 4th round pick of the Cubs in 2009.

Congratulations Chris!
